Kensington Wama Wetland

Polluted to Purification

Funded by the federal and state government grants and the City of Burnside, this wetland was part of a $7.4m park upgrade.

A main driver was to replace the polluted pond and health risk with a functional wetland which would naturally purify the water before it progressed downstream.

Integration

The design not only maximised natural water biofiltration, but added amenity and usability for the community

Beauty

Constructed wetlands when designed well can provide an environment which is calming and beautiful, while supporting biodiversity

Materials Mix

Good design includes selecting materials which workwell together and provide function. This rock stepping path is ideal for kids traversing the wetland without trampling on plants or getting their feet wet when the system fills with water to the maximum 200mm detention depth
